Dr. Vad: I am truly amazed at the detail your site has on the coxsackie virus et. al. My 1-yr.old's child care facility reported 2 cases and parents received a notice about this. Information on this virus seems scarce. What is best treatment/prevention??? Also, please look at my site to see pictures of my very beautiful son.

I was travelling in Europe for about a month in May and June 1999. I visited England, France, Switzerland, Italy, and Ireland and had a wonderful time. After my trip, I discovered that I may have been exposed to PCBs, which concerns me. However, I do n t know enough about PCBs and dioxins to become overly concerned yet.

I returned from holidays in Israel in Septmeber 2000 and came home with this HORRID disease..I was hospitalized for a week and was told by doctors that I was lucky to survive! What makes me so angry is that travel agents are not aware of the risks people are running when they visit these areas. There are NO warning signs to cover up or take any precautions. I know when I travel to Malaria danger zones I always take tablets befo e during and after and the warnings are very clear. But for this virus...NOTHING...99.9% of travel agents here in the Netherlands have never even heard of the illness...the .1% is my own travel agent but she wont issue a warning to travellers to the middl east (scared it will deter potential customers?) I appear to be the 1st person in the Netherlands who has had the luck and joy to come home with something like this and Im at a loss at how to go further to make more people aware of it. Found a dead bird on my deck yesterday -- looked like a small immature kingfisher. Was trying to determine if birds other than crow's can die of West Nile virus. I'm still not sure but judging by your graphics on the site -- probably any bird could be i volved. Couldn't get ahold of the health dept in my area because their bldg has been closed due to some problem with asbestos removal being done incorrectly. Great Site! With lots of information. I am with Chatham Co Mosquito Control and was wondering how we could assist in monitoring for West Nile in our area. I was an investigator on the New York outbreak of WNV. I believe that we shall witness an emergence of previously unknown pathogens.
