With the recent outbreak of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) in Peninsula, I searched the Internet for available information and have arranged these at http://www.vadscorner.com/je.html . On 19 January 1999 NST reported the death toll as 14 and mentions a new strain, the Ipoh JE strain. This strain is believed to have started in the 1990's. To help understand the virus, I have also made some links to a few articles pertaining to "new emerging viruses".
For ongoing outbreak information on JE (other than our local media), I suggest ProMED-mail electronic conference (http://www.promedmail.org/pls/promed/f?p=2400:1000) site and make a query for Japanese Encephalitis.
Prof. Lam Sai Kit (see Berita MMA Vol.28 No.7, July 1998 issue; cyber-interview; http://www.vadscorner.com/internet17.html) has been kind enough to give an overview of this disease and it is published in full in this issue of Berita MMA. The article is also available from the Internet at http://www.vadscorner.com/jelsk.html .
CDC (http://www.cdc.gov/) site has some relevent information under the following sites
